Special Drawing Rights

Special Drawing Rights are an artificially created means to calculate payments that are intangible and are based only on digital bank accounts. They are used by the IMF to increase its reserves, its credit operations and to regulate deficits and balance of payments for countries which form part of the IMF. The rate of special drawing rights is calculated every day on the basis of the rates of four key currencies.
